Sutra Turns 3: Celebrate With Our Buy One Get One Gift for You

Three years ago, Sutra Art of Clothing was born out of a single question: can clothing be used to bridge the gap between India's unparalleled craft traditions and those who will appreciate them?

Well, today, Sutra is turning 3, and we're celebrating that journey with the folks who made it happen. To celebrate this milestone and to thank all our customers who have trusted us over the years, we're pleased to introduce our new BOGO Anniversary Gift.

While we may be proud of our progress these days, let's take a step back to the beginning.

Our Story: Why Sutra Began

Before Sutra: When Success Stopped Feeling Enough

Before the formation of Sutra Art of Clothing, Priya had a well-established career in finance. She had achieved stability, financial security and all of her hard work, thanks to years of dedication. What looked good was the way she appeared from the outside.

However, there was something that was missing.

The thrill of learning was lost, and life had become routine. While there was nothing to complain about, there was also little that inspired her to create, explore or make a lasting impact. It wasn't a lack of satisfaction with her career; it was more a realisation that success wasn't enough. She wanted to create something that had meaning and purpose.

This feeling of restlessness was the first thread in the tale of Sutra.

The Thursday Coffee Conversation

It was another Thursday morning when Priya and Shubhojeet met over coffee, discussing work, life and the future.

During one such conversation, Priya finally spoke about the feeling she had been carrying for months. She had achieved the career she had envisioned, but she had always thought she could create something that would have more meaning.

It wasn't a simple choice to walk away from certainly without knowing what was coming next. There was no business plan or market research. Choosing purpose over predictability was a brave move.

That Thursday conversation became far more than a discussion over coffee. It ignited the passion and introduced the beginnings of what was to become Sutra Art of Clothing. The courage had finally found its way into Priya's heart, and Shubhojeet, who had been by her side all the way, cheered her on. They've helped to create a brand that is built on purpose, craft, and trust.

Sutra went on to expand over the following years; Priya was the soul of Sutra, and Shubhojeet was the brain of the brand. His official entry into the business was yet another milestone in Sutra's trajectory. Since then, the brand has continued to evolve, and this progression has been marked with further steps towards progress, further ideas and constant evolution.

This version is planted early and establishes a seamless transition to the later part of the character, where the audience can enjoy an expanded Shubhojeet, with no repetition.

A Calling They Had Already Been Close To

India's traditional handloom craft was always something both Priya and Shubhojeet were interested in.

Whenever they travelled, they found themselves drawn to artisan markets, woven textiles and handcrafted fabrics. They enjoyed the patience, the skill, the stories behind each one, but didn't realise it could be their business.

Then admiration became curiosity as they delved deeper and deeper. Curiosity became purpose.

In some cases, the solution we're looking for has always been right here. It's just that we require boldness to acknowledge it.

Two Problems, One Opportunity

The deeper they stepped into the world of handloom, the clearer one reality became.

Indian crafts were much appreciated by customers, but purchasing them could sometimes be an uncertain experience. Was it actually handwoven? Was the craftsmanship authentic? Would the product be the same as the pictures? Was it worth the price?

Trust was missing.

Meanwhile, Indian artisans were working on some amazing textiles, honing their craft and skills over centuries. However, many found it hard to attract customers who would value their craft, and the ability to sustain their craft was more challenging.

Priya and Shubhojeet knew that it was not a one-way fight. It was the same tale with two different perspectives.

  • Customers needed transparency.
  • Artisans needed opportunity.
  • Sutra might be the link between both.

That vision laid the foundation for Sutra Art of Clothing. It was not a matter of selling clothes. It was about building trust, highlighting handloom craftsmanship and making sure that every piece tells a story of the people who made it.

Thank You for Being Part of Our Story

Every meaningful journey begins with a single decision, and for Priya, it was the decision to choose purpose over predictability. It began as a discussion and evolved into a vision that brought together artisans, customers and India's timeless craft traditions through thoughtful clothing.

The tale of Sutra wasn't all about fashion. It was about fostering trust, cherishing the art of craftsmanship and establishing a forum to enable the proper use of authentic handloom in contemporary clothing. These initial moments established all that the brand is today.

We celebrate Sutra as it reaches its 3rd birthday, and we celebrate all of you who have been on this journey with us. Every contribution has given us our identity, from the artisans who pour generations of skill into every weave, to the customers who have welcomed our creations into their wardrobe.

So, for your part in our story, we want to honour this occasion by serving you our Buy One Get One Anniversary Gift. So, to three years of craftsmanship, conscious fashion and meaningful connections, and many more stories yet to be woven together at Sutra Art of Clothing.
